Taiwan Employment Gold Card: Information for Spouses and Children
The Taiwan Employment Gold card gives foreign employees an opportunity to move to Taiwan and, at the same time, bring their immediate family members. Dependents Gold Card holders are also allowed to sponsor their legally married spouse and unmarried children below the age of 20. Special cases may also include adult children with physical or mental disabilities who cannot live independently. After the Gold Card is approved, the relatives may request a dependent resident visa at a Taiwanese branch abroad and upon arrival, they will be issued with an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC), which will help them to stay in Taiwan as long as the principal cardholder.
Family members living in Taiwan under a dependent ARC can legally live, but are not necessarily given the right to work. In case a spouse wants to work in Taiwan, he or she has to receive an invitation to work there, and then the employer has to apply for another work permit. Children below 20 years of age are treated as dependents and they are not permitted to work. Adult non-dependent children are required to seek their own residence or work permit according to the usual Taiwan immigration policies.
