Digital Master Test (dMAT) for Germany APS India: Complete Guide for Master’s Applicants (2026–2027)

If you are planning to pursue a Master’s degree in Germany and need an APS Certificate from India, there is an important update you should know. The Digital Master Test (dMAT) has been introduced as a new requirement for selected Master’s applicants applying through APS India.
This guide explains everything about the dMAT, including eligibility, exemption rules, important dates, test centers, and how it affects your APS application.

What is the Digital Master Test (dMAT)?

The Digital Master Test (dMAT) is a standardized academic aptitude test introduced for selected Master’s applicants from India. The test is designed to support the APS verification process by providing an additional assessment of applicants’ academic abilities.
It is important to note that the dMAT does not replace the APS certificate or the document verification process. Instead, it becomes an additional document that forms part of your APS application.
The test is administered by the Society for Academic Study Preparation and Test Development (g.a.s.t.), while APS India continues to verify educational documents as usual.

Who Needs to Take the dMAT?

The dMAT is mandatory for applicants applying for the Summer Semester 2027 intake and future intakes if their previous degree belongs to one of the following fields:
  • Engineering
  • Commerce
  • Accounting
  • Finance
  • Economics
  • Business
  • Management
If your undergraduate degree falls into any of these disciplines, you will most likely need to submit a dMAT certificate along with your APS application.

Who is Exempt from the dMAT?

Not every applicant is required to take the exam.
You are exempt if:
  • You completed your APS online registration before 29 June 2026
  • You shipped your complete APS application documents before 29 June 2026
  • You have already completed the APS process and received your APS Certificate.
Only applicants who both:
  • Registered for APS on or after 29 June 2026, and
  • Sent their complete APS application on or after 29 June 2026
must submit the dMAT certificate if they belong to the eligible study fields.

Does the dMAT Replace APS Verification?

  • Verify academic documents
  • Check the authenticity of certificates.
  • Confirm formal eligibility
The dMAT simply becomes an additional requirement in the APS documentation process.
